Released in the spring of 1999, Recuerdos de la Guitarra is a compilation of works performed on the classical guitar by Mississippi native and graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, Michael Boyd. He received his Bachelors of Music and Masters of Music degrees under the tutelage of John DeChiaro, professor of guitar at the University of Southern Mississippi. While there he was the first recipient of the Elmo and Mary Glenn Harrison Guitar Scholarship. In 1997, Mr. Boyd garnished top honors in the Music Teachers National Association Regional Convention in Tallahassee, Florida. He has attended masterclasses with such renowned artist as: Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Marc Regnier, Randy Pile, Pat Kerber, and the Los Angeles Guitar members William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant, Andrew York, and John Dearman. Michael Boyd is featured as Concert Master on the Southern Arts Guitar Consort recording, "Reflections", is a member of the Mississippi Guitar Quartet, and is Presently Professor of Guitar at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi.
The works included on this recording include: Lady Hunsdons Puffe by John Dowland, Lute Suite no. 1 by Johan Sebastian Bach, Rossiniane Op. 119 by Mauro Guiliani, Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tarrega, Etude no. 11 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Pequena Sevillana by Joachim rodrigo, Variations on Sakura by Yuquihiro Yocoh, and Sunburst by Andrew York.
